Will Portray An American Indian Shawl Dancer
JuniKae (Mimiquin Equay) will be dressed in regalia as a Fancy Shawl Dancer and will share her knowledge of women Powwow dancers. She produced an half-hour TV show titled “Song of Nations where three American Indian Women, along with their daughters, share stories of their unique dance and regalia. There is a DVD available for the Song of Nations. JuniKae has also produced and hosted a 13‑part PBS Television series titled “Indian Pride. The 13‑part cultural magazine television series showcases the unique lifestyles of North America’s 564 Indian Nations.
There is an Indian Pride DVD that includes all 13 shows, a companion Teacher Vocabulary Guide and a website www.indianpridepbs.org. The website has an educational segment with access to K‑12 lesson plans developed from the Indian Pride series. These lesson plans are based on national educational standards and benchmarks for K‑ 12 grade levels. Both Song of Nations and Indian Pride can be adapted to the K‑12 grade levels as needed for each presentation. JuniKae is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and is a North Dakota Certified Elementary/Special Education Teacher.
